Rangers Acquire Nik Antropov from Leafs
Apparently, Glen Sather reads 5-hole.com. As I suggested 6 weeks ago, the Rangers have traded for Nik Antropov from the Maple Leafs. My exact words were:
I like the Maple Leafs’ big power winger Nik Antropov. And, with a cap hit of just over $2 million, I hope the Rangers like him too.
I also put this note in the caption: “Dear Glen Sather: This dude is a beast. Love, 5-hole.com”.
Antropov just turned 29 years old, and already has 21 goals this season, which puts him at #1 on the Rangers in scoring. That’s scary. That $2 million cap figure is annual, so the Rangers will end up paying Antropov far less for this season. He is an UFA at the end of the year.
According to the ESPN Trade Tracker, the Rangers sent over a 2nd rounder and a conditional pick. Looks like a salary dump. We’ll take it.
About the author: Marc is a Long Island native and a hockey goalie. He has been a Rangers fan for as long as he can remember, although, in the interest of full disclosure, there was a time during the 1993 playoffs when he vaguely remembers cheering for Pierre Turgeon and the Islanders after the Dale Hunter cheap shot. His favorite Ranger of all time is Mike Richter.
