Rangers to waive Wade Redden?

According to Bruce Garrioch:
“There is talk the Rangers might waive D Wade Redden at the start of next season and send him to the AHL’s Hartford Wolf Pack to get his $6.5-million salary off the books. New York has tried to deal Redden, but nobody is willing to bite. He still has $32.5 million and five years left on his contract.”
This would be awesome news if it happened. But let’s consider the situation.
- It’s Bruce “Malkin to the Kings” Garrioch. This guy seriously once said the Pens were gonna trade Malkin to the Kings. Seriously. He’s about a half-step above Eklund.
- He sites no sources. It’s almost like saying, “They say it’s gonna be a bad winter.” “Who said that?” “I don’t know. They did.”
- Even if this is someone in the Rangers organization leaking real info, how could this leaked info be beneficial? No team hears, “This player sucks so we’re sending him to the AHL to get him off our books.” and thinks, “Hmm, maybe I should offer them a trade.”
Let’s just file this one under “wishful thinking” until it actually happens.
