As I lay on my couch, enjoying my first day off in almost two weeks by eating cookies and chinese food while watching

obscene amounts of Intervention and Always Sunny, I felt a strange energy in my den. My chinese food began to taste of donuts. The air smelled of bacon. And then, a strange breeze blew through the room, and the breeze whispered in my ear…..

That’s right, chirruns, it’s Fatso time again. The Rangers play the Devils at 7pm tonight on MSG2. Will the Rangers win? Ummmm, dunno. Will they actually score some goals? Ummmmm, dunno. Will Marty Brodeur be a big, fat fatty while his grease-covered former sister-in-law/wife looks on from their Fortress of Fatitude? That is a definite YES.

Hopefully this also means that Avery will be a major pain in the ass. He’s been in fine form lately with this:

You know what hasn’t been up here in a while? A NUMBERS BREAKDOWN! YEAHHHHHHH!!!!

5-hole.com Olympic Hockey Bracket Spectacular – Champion

As Marc said a few days ago, he did indeed win the 5-hole.com Olympic Hockey Bracket Spectacular. Marc finished with a total of 24 out of 34 points. So did Chris. Marc won by tie breaker. He picked Canada to win 4-3 and Chris picked them to win 5-4. In fact, Marc and Chris had identical brackets except for the tie breaker scores. As the winner, Marc recieves this shiny nickel:

In third place is Jordan. Here are the complete standings:

As you can see, Rory and I did splendidly getting 12 and 10 points respectively. In fact, while Rory and I spent at least 10 minutes each on our picks, I’m fairly sure that Marc scribbled his down in about 30 seconds. Kind of reminds me of Bill Simmons’ wife making her picks without knowing anything about football and basing her picks on nothing in particular. Except that Marc knows what he’s talking about.

So there you have it. I still suck at picking teams to win championships, Marc got a shiny, 5 year old nickel, and Rory, well, Rory’s Rory.Congratulations to Marc, Chris, and Jordan and thank you to everyone who participated on such short notice. I’m pretty sure there’s going to be a World Cup of Hockey in 2011, so maybe we can bring this back for that instead of waiting until 2014.

Mike and Aaron both picked Belarus over Switzerland and almost made the rest of us look like fools. Luckily, Sergei Kostitsyn lost control of the puck and was unable to put it through Hiller’s gaping 5-hole(.com).

Farewell to Norway (Vikingstad!), Latvia, Belarus, and Germany. Better luck in Sochi!

Marc, Rory and I have decided to have a friendly contest. The 5-hole.com Olympic Hockey Bracket Spectacular! The Olympic tournament doesn’t get reseeded each round like the Stanley Cup Playoffs so it works perfectly. I even set up a bracket for us to fill in. OK, I took a screen shot of the Wikipedia page and added in some more boxes for gold, silver, bronze, and 4th place.

I’ve even taken it a step further and am asking you the readers to join in. Put your prognostication skills up against ours. If you’d like to join in, you can get a copy of the bracket here:

Fill out your bracket and the final score of the gold and bronze medal games (as tie breakers) and then either put a link to the image of your completed brackets in the comments or email the bracket as an attachment to 5holeblog@gmail.com. Also include in the email your name so I can keep track of points publicly and not have to use your email.

Rules:

You must submit your bracket by 12:00PM EST on Tuesday February 23, 2010. The first game is on Tuesday February 23, 2010 at 3:00PM EST. I need time to compile all of the brackets. If your bracket is not submitted before then, it does not count.

Each completed bracket is scored under our Scoring System, as shown below:

Today (February 13) is 5-hole’s 2nd birthday and our first anniversary at 5-hole.com (We had previously been at 5hole.wordpress.com). We’d like to thank all of our readers for uh… reading the site every day. Two years ago we were averaging 20 views a day. Now we’re averaging almost 600 a day. So thank you again for your support in this sea of Rangers blogs called the internet.
